On September 15, 1963, McKinstry was inside the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama with her friends when a bomb planted at the church exploded. Four of her friends died. In this narrative, McKinstry shares her experiences growing up in the segregated South and the affects the bombing had on her life.
