In 1936 Kentucky, Kate Merritt, the 14 year-old daughter of a troubled WWI veteran and a withdrawn mother, feels the burden of keeping her family together. When she finds a hungry and abandoned little girl who believes Kate is an angel, a seed of change is planted in her home.
