On May 13, 1945 a transport plane carrying 24 servicemen and WACs left for a sightseeing flight over the jungles of Dutch New Guinea. The plane crashed and only 3 passengers survived–2 men and 1 woman. Injured, the three survivors braved threats of native cannibals and Japanese forces as they hiked down a mountainside for rescue.
